Výškovou dominantou námestia je veža farského Rímsko – katolíckeho kostola mučeníckej smrti sv. Jána Krstiteľa. Kostol bol postavený v ranogotickom slohu už začiatkom 14.storočia. Najcennejší je hlavný oltár, ktorého originál sa nachádza v národnom múzeu v Budapešti a pochádza z dielne majstra Pavla z Levoče. Posledné väčšie úpravy boli urobené v rokoch 1938 –1939, v 70. rokoch bol rekonštruovaný hlavný oltár. V roku 1992 bola vykonaná celková vonkajšia rekonštrukcia.

Veža kostola bola upravovaná v r. 1537. Vtedy dosahovala výšku dvoch tretín a boli v nej ešte zvony, ktoré boli po výstavbe zvonice premiestnené. Zaujímavosťou tejto veže je to, že má odklon od osi 45 cm a jej výška je necelých 50 m.

Pod kostolom sa nachádza kobka, kde sa pochovávali významnejšie osobnosti mesta.

The tower of the Roman – Catholic parish church of the Martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist dominates the square. The Church was built in early Gothic style in the early fourteenth century. The most valuable main altar, whose original is in the National Museum in Budapest, is the work of Master Pavol of Levoča. The last major modifications were made between 1938 and 1939, and in the 1970s the main altar was renovated. In 1992, the exterior of the church was fully renovated.

The church tower was changed in 1537. At that time, its height was two thirds of its present size and it housed bells which were relocated after the bell tower was built. It is interesting to note that the church tower tilts by 45 cm from the vertical line and its height is almost 50 m.

The vault where the most important personalities of the town were buried lies under the church.
