Na južnej strane námestia sa nachádza socha Sabíny, ktorej autorom je mladý sabinovský výtvarník, grafik a sochár Juraj Andraščík, ktorý sochu daroval mestu pri príležitosti Dní Sabinova 2014. Socha bola slávnostne odhalená 9. 6. 2014, je vyrobená z 1 634 nerezových trojuholníkov a má výšku 220 cm a predstavuje Sabínu, ako zachraňuje a vyťahuje z vody kráľa Bela IV.

Socha predstavuje Sabínu, dievčinu, ktorá zachránila život kráľovi Belovi IV. a podľa legendy je podľa nej pomenované mesto Sabinov.

Legenda hovorí, že keď Tatári obliehali a plienili naše územie, prenasledovali aj kráľa Belu IV. s jeho družinou. Kráľ bol nútený prejsť cez rieku Torysu, ktorá bola v tom čase rozvodnená. Mnoho vojakov aj s koňmi rieka pohltila. Aj kráľ sa topil, keď ho zrazu zachytila nejaká silná ruka a začala ho ťahať na loďku. Bola to Sabína , chudobné dievča, ktoré žilo neďaleko a keď videlo, že sa topia ľudia, hneď prišlo na pomoc.

Kráľ jej za svoju záchranu ponúkal peniaze, ale Sabína to odmietla. Len požiadala kráľa, aby na ňu myslel, keď mu už bude dobre. Keď sa po plienení Tatári vrátili do Ázie, kráľ si spomenul na Sabínu. Obdaroval ju drahými darmi a dal jej postaviť dom. Na jej počesť mesto, ktoré vyrástlo na mieste Sabíninej osady, dostalo meno Sabinov.

The statue of Sabina located on the southern edge of the square is the work of Juraj Andraščík, a young graphic artist and sculptor of Sabinov who donated the statue to the town on the occasion of the Sabinov Days 2014. The statue was unveiled during a ceremony on June 9th 2014. Made out of 1,634 stainless steel triangles, it is 220cm high and depicts the girl Sabína rescuing King Béla IV by pulling him out of the water.

The statue represents Sabína, a girl who saved the life of King Béla IV, and the legend says that Sabinov was named after her.

The legend has it that at that time the Tartars were besieging and sacking our lands. They were also in pursuit of King Béla IV and his group. The King was forced to cross the Torysa river, which was swollen at that time. The raging river killed many soldiers with their horses. The king was drowning too when suddenly a strong hand seized hold of him and started to pull him onto a boat. It was Sabína, a poor girl who lived nearby and who had come quickly to help when she saw the people drowning.

In return for his life, the king offered to give money to Sabína but she refused to take it. She only asked the King to think of her when he was well again. When the Tartars returned to Asia, the king remembered Sabína. He gave her valuable gifts and had a house built for her. In honour of Sabína, the town built on the site of Sabína’s settlement was given the name Sabinov.
